Ariana Grande Recreates Glinda's Original Wizard of Oz Gown at Wicked's Australian Premiere | Teen Vogue

Ariana Grande has not shied away from wearing pink for the last year in an effort to channel Glinda the Good Witch in the forthcoming film adaptation of Wicked. She's been wearing endless dresses and more casual outfits with varying shades of pink, but her most recent gown might be the most Glinda take so far.

In honor of the film's premiere in Sydney, Australia, on November 2, Grande went all the way back to the original Wizard of Oz film for inspiration. The musician and actor wore a similarly silhouetted blush pink gown that closely mirrored the very same one worn by actor Billie Burke in the 1939 film. Burke played the first rendition of Glinda — the very same role that Grande has taken on.

Grande's dress, a custom Vivienne Westwood Couture creation, featured a corseted bodice adorned with swirls of rhinestone detailing and attached puffy sleeves. The gown was handcrafted in London. The skirt flowed down to the ground into a ballgown shape, with layers of pink tulle overlapping one another and light peach crystals giving it a subtle sparkle. For accessories, Grande wore a diamond butterfly choker, and her blonde hair was swept back into a half-up, half-down do.

The dress seemed like an ode to Glinda's original dress in The Wizard of Oz, which was prominently featured during a scene with Dorothy along the yellow brick road. Burke's dress in the 1939 film was much more dramatic than the one Grande wore, but the same corset and pink coloring were present.

Grande was joined on the yellow carpet by her costars, including Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba, and Grande's boyfriend Ethan Slater, who plays Boq.

Jonathan Bailey, who plays Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum, who plays The Wizard, and Marissa Bode, who plays Nessarose, were also at the premiere.

Ariana Grande has been open about how much this role means to her and the care she's taken to train for the character. Her dedication to the Broadway adaptation has gone beyond just the clothes she wears, but also her Instagram bio ("currently somewhere over the rainbow") to a tattoo dedicated to Glinda/ Galinda.
